Job Description

VECRA, Inc. is seeking Interpreter/Translator candidates who are fluent in one or more of the following languages:

The successful candidate will provide professional interpretation and translation services for legal matters, both in-person and remotely.

Key Responsibilities

Provide impartial, confidential interpretation for legal services, typically consecutive, with occasional simultaneous interpretation.

Adapt to different regional dialects and employ the appropriate mode of interpretation for each situation.

Offer services in-person, via telephone, videoconference, or other virtual means.

Travel to interpretation sites if needed (separate from the primary worksite).

Respect and understand the cultural, linguistic, and belief systems of Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients.

Correctly interpret, clarify, and ask for clarification when needed, ensuring understanding between all parties.

Recognize and explain potential cultural differences or discomforts in the target language.

Encourage direct communication between clients and providers.

Maintain professionalism and integrity in all interactions, diffusing conflicts as necessary.

Serve as a linguistic and cultural resource to clients and case managers.

Avoid generalizations and stereotyping and practice active listening throughout all encounters.

Review and transcribe audio or internet materials with high accuracy, when required.

Master the use of reference materials and contribute to successful outcomes.

Participate in all training sessions and assessments as required by VECRA.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, plus 2-5 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.

Language Proficiency: Must pass proficiency tests in one or more target languages as listed above.

English Proficiency: Must pass an English proficiency test (reading, writing, and speaking).

Citizenship: U.S. citizen or Green Card holder.

Technology Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, Teams, Zoom, and other relevant software.

Cultural Sensitivity: Must understand and respect geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural elements in translations.

Communication Skills: Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills.

Confidentiality: Must maintain strict confidentiality with all materials and interpreted content.

Ability to Work in a Fast-Paced Environment: Must be able to thrive under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Home Office Requirements (for remote positions):

Desktop or Laptop computer (Chromebooks and iPads are not permitted).

High-speed internet connection.

Quiet, private workspace for maintaining client confidentiality.

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to engage with internal and external customers.

Superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Ability to summarize complex concepts and abstract points accurately.

Certification or testing from nationally recognized organizations (e.g., ATA, AIIC, FBI Language Test, State Department exam, court certification) is a plus.

Schedule

Full-time, part-time, and on-call opportunities.

Standard work hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (schedule may vary based on client needs, with occasional weekend work). Overtime possible.

Shifts: All shifts available to cover 24/7/365 including nights, weekends and holidays.

Location:

Fully Remote with some onsite support required upon request.

Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Chicago, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii Islands, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Philippines Islands, Utah, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming among others.
